PDF to Markdown
A PDF is a page layout, not a text file. This reads the text out of it and writes Markdown. If the PDF already has a text layer, that read stays in this tab. A scan is a picture of text, so Read pages sends the file out.
How to use it
- Drop a PDF, or paste a link to one. Try the sample if you want to see the shape of the result.
- If the tab finds almost no text, use Read pages. That sends the file out to be read.
- Copy the Markdown, or download the .md file.

Does PDF to Markdown upload my file?
Text that is already in the PDF is read in this tab. Read pages is the step that sends a hard PDF out.
Why is the Markdown from my PDF almost empty?
The file is probably a scan. There is no text layer to copy. Read pages looks at the pages themselves.
