# Markdown cheat sheet Line breaks: two spaces at the end of a line, or a blank line for a new paragraph. A single Return in the source will not show up. ## Headings `# H1` through `###### H6`. Put a space after the hashes. One H1 per file is enough. ## Emphasis `*italic*` · `**bold**` · `~~strike~~` · inline code in backticks. ## Lists `- item` for bullets. `1. item` for numbers. Nested lists indent two spaces. Task items: `- [ ]` and `- [x]`. ## Tables Pipes. Header row, then a separator, then body. | name | role | | --- | --- | | Ada | math | Alignment: `:---` left, `:---:` center, `---:` right. Escape a pipe in a cell with a backslash. ## Links and images `[text](https://example.com)` · `` Remote images in a file you open here fetch in your browser, not through a server of ours. ## Code Fenced blocks, with a language tag if you know it. An indent of four spaces also works. Fences are easier to keep. ## Quotes and rules `> quote` · `---` for a horizontal rule on its own line. ## Where files go A file you paste or drop stays in this tab. Convert tries this tab first. If the site blocks the browser, ihatemd fetches that link. To read a file as a page, open the [markdown preview](/preview).
